SALKANTAY TREK
5 Days | 4 Nights
A Short Andean Experience
Salkantay Trek 4 days is a short version of traditional Salkantay Trek, It is a program designed for those which complete the trek in the shortest time.
It is an ancient and remote trail in the same region as the Luxury Inca Trail, with spectacular views of the snowcapped mountain itself and a magnificent alternative for those tourists who wish to escape the more congested trekking routes.
Salkantay Trekking to Machu picchu is a route across the Andes and descending down in the high jungle. We pass through incredible archaeological sites along the way with snowcapped peaks and the spectacular cloud forest.
The Salkantay Trek 4 days is an alternative to the Classic Inca Trail, which can be done in approximately the same time and arriving on its final day at Machu picchu.
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and then take a bus to Mollepata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft), a small Andean village. Here we will have time for shopping and breakfast (of your choice, not included) and then head on to Challacancha where we will await our team-leader, horses and organize all our gear to get ready for our journey. At the end of the day we will arrive at Soraypampa which will be the place of our first campsite.
After a good breakfast we will begin our trek once more. This will be a a more demanding day compared to the others as the trail ascends to 4 600 m above sea level at the Salkantay pass, from where we will have an amazing view of the whole of the Vilcanota mountain range, whose highest peak is Salkantay, our guide provide us all Salkantay information.
Without doubt a spectacular day! Then we will begin to descend and appreciate the landscape of the cloud forest with its sub-tropical climate. With luck we will see parrots, hummingbirds and thrushes amongst many other birds as well fauna such as bamboo and orchids. After seven hours walking we will arrive at our second campsite in Colcapampa.
We begin the third day of our trek, crossing banana, passionfruit and coffee plantations until we arrive at the small village of Wiñaypoco, where we will have time to rehydrate and rest for a few minutes.
Then we will continue with our journey to La Playa, another small village where we can buy any needed snacks. At this point we will take a transport to Hidroelectrica and from there a train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night.
