Salkantay Trek & Inca Trail Combined

An Experience and two roads to Machu Picchu

The Salkantay Inca Trail 7 days that unites the Salkantay with the Inca Trail takes on a different character compared with the other treks, since the beauty of both is combined, offering us a great variety of flora, fauna, unique Andean landscapes with archaeological ruins of the Inca, all to be seen in this trip of 7 days and six nights. And remember, on the final day our efforts will be rewarded with the fantastic view of the Inca city of Machu picchu itself.

In the case of the Salkantay Trail, we don’t need any special availabilities to enter the trail, but on the third day when we enter the Inca Trail, availability is required. For this reason it is recommended to reserve your place in good time, at least 7 months before leaving.

Salkantay Trail Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha - Soraypampa

This trekking route joins two very beautiful routes, our adventure begins in Cusco, our private tourist transport will take us to Challacancha, from where our walk begins. From the beginning, the Salkantay mountain welcomes us, the road is picturesque and full of queñas forests.

we will arrive to Soraypampa where we will have our lunch, in the afternoon we will visit the famous turqueza humantay lake, After this visit we will return to Soraypampa and camp here.

Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pampa – Pampa Japonesa

After our breakfast we will start the hike until we will reach Salkantay Pampa place from where we can appreciate one of the most important mountains of Cusco the Salkantay considered a god in the Inca’s age.

From this point we will continue on a different path to our right hand, this day we will have our camp in Japanese Pampa.

Day 3: Pampa Japonesa – Sisaypampa – Canal Inca

we continue our journey, this day ascending to the pass known as Inca Chirisca (place where the Inca feels cold) where the views are fantastic and the immensity of the snowy peaks makes us feel very small! This will be the highest point of the walk, after which we continue our trek towards Canal Inca, where we will make our third camp.

Day 4: Canal Inca – Huayllabamba – Llulluchapampa

This day we will begin walking around 8am after breakfast, visiting Inca archaeological ruins along the way, such as Inca Racay, which functioned as a place of rest in Inca times. This place is composed of a series of rectangular plazas, terraces and control points.

Then, after a brief explanation, we will have time to rest, before continuing our journey towards Huayllabamba (from this point the Inca trail begins). Here we will say farewell to our horse men and horses as this is the beginning of the Inca Trail where horses are prohibited. We will continue our hike until we reach fourth Llulluchapampa camp. We camp here for the night.

Day 5: Llulluchapampa – Pacaymayu – Sayacmarca – Chaquicocha

After breakfast we begin our trek along the Inca Trail. From this day forward we will be counting on the services of our porters, who will carry our camping gear and food. We then climb to the Warmiwañusca pass, which means in Quechua “Pass of the Dead Woman”.

It is one of the most beautiful places on the whole trip, where we will have spectacular views of the Andean landscapes that surround us. We then descend to the valley below, to the river Pacaymayu where we will our lunch, we will continue our adventure along the Inca Trail, ascending to the third pass where we will find a place known as Runcuracay (3,800 m / 12,467 ft), which takes the form of semi-circle, possibly some kind of Inca control point.

Then we descend until we reach Sayacamarca, another Inca ruin from which we can view the Acobamba valley, we will continued to Chaquicocha camp.

Day 6: Chaquicocha – Puyupatamarca – Wiñaywayna

here we can see the snow-capped mountains of Salkantay, Pumasillo and Veronica; continuing on from there through some natural tunnels used by the Inca.

We then ascend again to the fourth and last pass of our route where we will find the Inca ruins of Phuyupatarmarca, one of the most beautiful constructions along the route. We then head from the campsite in Phuyupatarmarca, which will be our last.

All the Salkantay Inca Trail 7 Days Group will also say goodbye to our porters on this final day, who have helped make our experience a unique one.

Day 7: Wiñaywayna – Machu picchu – Cusco

we set off in the direction of Inti Punku, The Sun Gate, and the main entrance point to Machupicchu, where we can see all the splendor of the historic sanctuary of Machupicchu.

We will have a guided tour lasting around two hours after which you will have the rest of the day to explore on your own. We then take a bus down to Aguas Calientes where one can find a wide variety of restaurants in which to eat.

Keep in mind that the one must be at the train station half an hour before the train leaves. The trip from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo takes around two hours. We will be waiting for you at the station to take you back to Cusco by bus.
